Does galvenized steel rust? I found an old wash sink from a garage sale. I mean to keep it outside.?

As long as the coating is not damaged, it should not rust. Being a sink, it probably has a thicker coating of zinc than regular sheet metal.Does galvenized steel rust? I found an old wash sink from a garage sale. I mean to keep it outside.?
galvanized steel will rust if it is kept wet for too long of a period of time. When kept wet the zinc starts to oxidize and will form a ';white rust';. It looks like a white powdery residue on top of the plating. If it is not kept in a wet environment then the coating will last for many years until the zinc eventually ';wears off';. if you do have any concerns then they do make a galvanized paint that contains high levels of zinc and does a very good job of protecting the mild steel under the coating. eventually though the zinc will wear off and black steel will be exposed and it will rust.Does galvenized steel rust? It shouldn't.
They are OK until you scrap the coating off or scratch it and bust through the zinc. Then they start to rust.

but hey, for a yard sale, what do you want? Go ahead and use it if it rusts then paint it with a rust proofing paint.

Good luck
It will rust when the zinc plating wears off.
